Take advantage of this annual permit-free weekend for fishing, boating (Shawnee Mission, Heritage, Kill Creek and Lexington Lake parks only), and archery (Shawnee Mission Park only). This coincides with the State of Kansas’ “Free Fishing and Park Entrance Days” at state parks whereby state fishing permits are also waived. Fishing, boating, and archery permits will be waived in the designated JCPRD parks on these days only. JCPRD trout permits are still required if fishing for trout at Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek Park lakes.

Grab your fishing pole and lantern for the first overnight fishing opportunity of the year at Heritage Park - and it’s a special one! This opportunity coincides with our “Free Fishing, Boating & Archery Weekend” as well as the State of Kansas’ “Free Fishing and Park Entrance Days” at state parks whereby state fishing permits are also waived. A kids sized introduction to what could be the sport of a lifetime! Your little tennis pro will receive instruction in an approachable and supportive environment. Students play with junior rackets and low-bouncing balls on a reduced court allowing them to more easily make contact and sustain a rally. Students will focus on learning the fundamentals in order to establish a future of success.

At this stage of the game, players will continue to develop their skills and athleticism by use of an orange ball designed to travel more slowly and bounce lower. Here, players receive lessons on a regulation net, but on a court shorter in length than standard. With these modifications and junior rackets youth find continued success on the court and progress at their own pace.

For experienced players, hit, rally, and get ready for high school tennis. Using green balls with a slightly reduced bounce height, students ready for more of a challenge are transitioned to the full size 78-foot regulation court. With continued supportive coaching it won’t be long until students’ progress to the regulation yellow balls, the same as the pros!
