    Music, movement and imagination!!! Join the nature center staff as we act out stories with animal and yoga moves. These parent and child experiences are designed to encourage creativity, coordination and enhance awareness of the natural world. All children must be accompanied by a paying participating adult. See a live animal every time. 1 - 30 min. session - $2 per person; including adults. Children under age 2 years must register, but are free. Advanced registration now required. No walk-ins

  2. SOLD OUT - Sailing I (Ages 18 & Older) at Shawnee Mission Park

    Learn the basic skill of sailing. Types of boats, launching techniques, docking, maintenance, and safety will be covered in this class. Sailing I consists of two indoor lecture sessions and four water sessions. Indoor sessions will be held Tuesday and Thursday at the JCPRD Administration Building in Shawnee Mission Park and the outdoor sessions on Saturday mornings at Shawnee Mission Park Lake. If you wish to use your own boat, please call Officer Seth Salmans at (913) 826-3491. Basic swimming skills required.     Child must be fully potty trained to participate in this program. Your Little Critter will enjoy 3 hours of fun and education! Activities will vary by theme, but we will have a snack, make a craft, play games, and see an animal visitor each day. Children must be potty trained. Preregistration is required. Registration fee is nonrefundable. Sign up for just the Thursdays you want or for all of them! A monthly bundle is offered at a discount for registering for all four available Thursdays in January, February, or April. You must register for all four dates in the same month at the same time to receive the discount.     Easy Difficulty Take a hike…. with a naturalist. Let’s meet at the Nature Center and hike to through the park. Join us for themed hikes as we explore the landscape for hidden gems in the park. Hikes will be easy(E) to moderate(M) in difficulty dependent on the theme. Dress for the weather and muddy conditions on the trail. For more information call (913) 826-2800.   6. Girl Scout Brownie Space Science Badge (Ages 7-10) at TimberRidge Adventure Center

    Looking for an opportunity to earn a badge for your Brownie Girl Scouts? We can help! Join us at TimberRidge Adventure Center as a Brownie to complete your Space Science Adventurer Badge! Badge must be provided by Troops. Dress for the weather and learn outdoors. Please bring a flashlight and a blanket to sit on. Minimum one paid adult per five paid children. We will provide a prepackaged snack. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions prior to the event. Program starts at 8:30 pm and ends at 10 pm. This beginner’s workshop introduces you to orienteering, a fun way of learning the basic skills for using a topographic map and a magnetic compass. This class includes a practice orienteering hike in the park. Workbook and loan of compass are provided. Dress for the weather.
