Music, movement and imagination!!! Join the nature center staff as we act out stories with animal and yoga moves. These parent and child experiences are designed to encourage creativity, coordination and enhance awareness of the natural world. All children must be accompanied by a paying participating adult. See a live animal every time.
1 - 30 min. session - $2 per person; including adults.
Children under age 2 years must register, but are free.

Your Little Critter will enjoy 3 hours of fun and education! Activities will vary by theme, but we will have a snack, make a craft, play games, and see an animal visitor each day. Children must be potty trained. Preregistration is required. Registration fee is nonrefundable. Sign up for just the Thursdays you want or for all of them! A monthly bundle is offered at a discount for registering for all four available Thursdays in January, February, or April. Looking for an opportunity to earn a badge for your Brownie Girl Scouts? We can help! Join us at TimberRidge Adventure Center as a Brownie to complete your Space Science Adventurer Badge! Badge must be provided by Troops. Dress for the weather and learn outdoors. Please bring a flashlight and a blanket to sit on. Minimum one paid adult per five paid children. We will provide a prepackaged snack. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions prior to the event. Program starts at 8:30 pm and ends at 10 pm. Do you like to hike cross-country but fear losing your way? This beginner’s workshop introduces you to orienteering, a fun way of learning the basic skills for using a topographic map and a magnetic compass. This class includes a practice orienteering hike in the park. Workbook and loan of compass are provided. Dress for the weather. Instructor: Possum Trot Orienteering Club.

For ages 2-6. Join a park naturalist for animal stories and surprises geared for preschool age children. Come listen and learn. Meet a special animal friend every time. Spend the day exploring the property. Catch-and-release fishing in any or all of seven ponds within the 158-acre area will also be offered, so bring your own bait and tackle. While JCPRD fishing permits have been waived for this event, anglers 16 and older will still need to have a valid Kansas fishing license. Choose from several activities during our annual Open House: canoeing, kayaking, pedal boating, hiking, BB gun shooting, and archery. Participants need to be 8 years or older for the BB gun and archery range activities. Fishing is also available, however participants age 16 and older are required to have Kansas fishing license. Licenses will not be sold on site. Cops n’ Bobbers will be on site with poles and bait available for use or you may bring your own. This is a free event, however we are currently anticipating registration will be required due to COVID and maximum group sizes.

No field trips this year? We have you covered with socially-distanced family field trips at the Lanesfield Historic Site. Families will get a to experience a bit of life in 1904—from life on the farm and completing chores to the challenges of lessons inside the one-room schoolhouse led by a costumed schoolmarm. Activities will be offered according to grade level and appropriate for grades K-6th. This event is open to homeschool groups, families, and scout groups. Sessions are 2 hours and group size will be limited to allow for social distancing. Sessions offered each day at 10:00 and 1:00. For questions call (913)715-2570.
