Notes: For more information or to register online for the programs listed here, visit JCPRD.com/Register and complete a search for any of the activity numbers listed below. To register by phone, call (913) 831-3359. For all in-person programs, physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 826-2975 for space availability.

Here's a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Oct. 31 through Nov. 6: 

Nov. 2 - Art: Clay Creations (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 3 to 6, 10 to 10:50 a.m., $12 per person) - Come get creative and explore clay. Students will get the opportunity to hand-build with clay and make one ceramics piece to be fired. Students will need an adult to attend class with them. Activity number 14706. Same-date session from 11 to 11:50 a.m., activity number 14707.

Nov. 2 - Special Interest: Navigating the Holidays (Virtual Program, Ages 50 Plus, 10 to 11 a.m., FREE) - The holidays, whatever that means for you, can bring with them various thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This session will provide tips and strategies to help you navigate the holidays in a way that is both healthy and effective. Program presented by Katherine Melton from Johnson County Mental Health Center. Activity number 14406.

Nov. 3 - Animal Tales: Animal Mouths (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 2-6 with adult, 10:30 - 11 a.m., $2 per person) - Join a park naturalist for animal stories and surprises geared for preschool age children. Come listen, learn, and meet a special animal friend every time. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Program held indoors. Nov. 3 session activity number 14410, Nov. 17 session - Talking Turkey, 14411. 

Nov. 4 - Special Interest: Alzheimer's Understanding and Responding (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 30 & Older, 3 to 4 p.m., FREE) - Learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Presentation brought to you by Alzheimer's Association. Activity number 14547.

Nov. 4 - Little Critter’s Day Out: Feathers, Beaks, Feet (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 3 to 5, 9 a.m. to Noon, $19 per person, $21 nonresidents) - Your Little Critter will enjoy three hours of fun and education once a month as you enjoy some personal time! Activities will vary but we will have an adventure, eat a snack, make a craft, play games, and see an animal visitor each day. Dress for the weather. Children must be potty trained. Nov. 4 - Yoga: Yoga  (Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee, Ages 14 & Older, Thursdays, 9 to 9:50 a.m., 2 sessions, $15.60 per person, $17 nonresidents) - Improve circulation, regulate your metabolism, and increase flexibility and coordination with this Yoga class. You will strengthen your muscles while increasing both muscle and bone density. Yoga participants of all levels are welcome. Activity number 15022.

Nov. 5 - Yoga: Rise and Shine Yoga - Fridays (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 14 & Older, Fridays, 8 to 9 a.m., 3 sessions, $24 per person, $26 nonresidents) - Start your day with an invigorating yoga practice at Ernie Miller Nature Center. This is yoga for anybody. All are welcome, no experience necessary! This class will focus on gentle stretching, serenity, and rejuvenation, and will be tailored to individual abilities. Please bring your mat to class. Instructor is Certified Yoga Teacher Elizabeth Morris. Activity number 15326.

Nov. 6 - Art: Puppet Construction (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 8 to 12, Saturdays, 1 to 3 p.m., 2 sessions, $40 per person, $44 nonresidents) - From quick paper puppets with simple linkages to carved foam puppets covered in fabric; in this class you will learn to develop original characters and make your own puppets.  This class meets only on Nov. 6 and 20. Activity number 14721.

Nov. 6 - Scouts: Girl Scout Daisy Badge Event (Whispering Pines Shelter at TimberRidge Adventure Center, 12300 S. Homestead Lane, Olathe, Ages 5 to 7, 1 to 4 p.m., $20 per person including adults, $22 nonresidents) - Looking for an opportunity to earn two badges for your Daisy Girl Scouts? We can help! Join us at TimberRidge Adventure Center as a Daisy to complete your Eco Learner and Buddy Camper badge. Badges must be provided by Troops. Dress for the weather and learn outdoors.  We will provide s’mores for snacks. Bring your lunch and water bottle. Please arrive at 12:30 pm.  Activity number 14311. Nov. 6 - Art: Painting (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 10 to 15, Saturdays, 10 a.m. to Noon, two sessions, $40 per person, $44 for nonresidents) - Experiment with different painting techniques and take home at least one finished painting. Activity number 14716.
