Here's some of the programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of May 16

Here's some of the programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of May 16-22:

May 18 - Crafts: Papercrete Scrabble© Tile "KC Royals©" (Virtual Program, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Ages 50 Plus, FREE) - Learn about a community program which aims to provide skill training and employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Enjoy crafting a trendy Scrabble tile Royals sign, from pieces Papercrete Works staff have crafted, while they lead the tutorial. Free supplies available for pickup at Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse May 17 from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Registration closes May 11. Activity number 9848.

May 18 - Exercise: Chair Yoga (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Tuesdays 10:30-11:20, Ages 50 Plus, 5 sessions, $40 per person, $44 nonresidents) - Take yoga off the mat and onto the chair, incorporating breathing with movement while retaining all the benefits of yoga easily from a chair. Experience standing balance poses using the chair for support as needed. Activity number 9601. Thursday session begins May 20. Activity number 9602.

May 20 - Games: Anniversary Special - Gameshows of the 80’s (Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr., 1:30-3 p.m., Ages 50 Plus, $10 per person, $11 nonresidents) - Have you ever dreamed of hearing your name over the loud speaker, "you're the next contestant, come on down!" Join in on this silly rendition of television game shows. This session we will play "Family-Feud." Everyone gets a chance to play. Refreshments will be served. Please register in advance, space is limited. This program is part of our year-long 50th anniversary celebration for 50 Plus. Activity number 9626.

May 21 - Geocaching: S'mores Family Geocaching (Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter #2, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, 5:30-7:30 p.m., All Ages, $13 per person, $14 nonresidents; $33 family up to 4 people, $36 nonresidents; and $43 family up to 7 people, $47 nonresidents) - This modern day scavenger hunt is a great way to spend time with the family out in your local park. Each group is loaned a GPS device and given instructions on how to find the caches hidden around Shawnee Mission Park. Receive a prize after finding the caches, then enjoy dinner and S'mores. Those registering as individuals will each receive a GPS unit to use; participants registering as a group of four or less will be loaned one GPS unit; registering as a group of seven or less will be loaned two GPS units. Activity number 9648.

May 22 - Special Events: SMP Adventure Race (Shawnee Mission Park, Shelter #4, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, 9 a.m., All Ages, fees vary)  - This new event offers both two- and six-hour options, both for singles and teams of up to four, which may involve navigation, trekking (running or hiking), mountain biking, and paddling. There may also be surprise challenges for all courses. Athletes will have access only to the gear, food, and drink that they carry on their bike or in their pack. Topographic maps will be issued at check-in. The team that completes all the checkpoints (or more than other teams) with the fastest time will win the race.
