First meeting of the new Wanderlust Virtual Book Club for 50 Plus is Jan. 27

Wanderlust Book Club

Intertwine your love of travel and a good book with a travel-themed book club during a new virtual special program being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.

Wanderlust Virtual Book Club is the name of this program, which will have monthly online meetings from January through April. Each month, participants can enjoy the selected book and conclude the month in a group virtual discussion about the read, how it relates to your travel, and how it may inspire your wanderlust. Members of the virtual club will meet to discuss the following books on the following dates and times: “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,” Wednesday, Jan. 27; “The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country,” Wednesday, Feb. 24; “Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time,” Tuesday, March 30; and “Bowing to Elephants,” Tuesday, April 27. Club members will need to find the specified books on their own, whether it be from a local library branch, downloading it for free, or finding it at a bookstore. This is meant to be a social group for people who love to travel or just have an adventurous side.

To find this program online at, browse first under 50 Plus and then under enrichment & special interests. When using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “reading.”

All Wanderlust Virtual Book Club sessions begin at 1:30 p.m., and will last about an hour. The cost for this four-session virtual program is $10 per person. All registered participants will receive an email with a Zoom link and instructions on how to proceed.  For more information or to register by phone, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at, click on “Activity Search,” and search for activity number 8073.

While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call (913) 826-2975, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

Printed copies of the My JCPRD Activities catalog are available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
