A special event called the Amazing Family Race is being offered in early October by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District. Physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be observed during this program.
This program, which will be a condensed and local version of the famous reality TV show, is for all ages, and will take place on a Saturday afternoon at Meadowbrook Park and Clubhouse. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle, and come ready to participate in outdoor and indoor activities.
“There will be puzzles and riddles but also quite a bit of running around in the park,” said Recreation Coordinator Sophie Griffin. “I hope participants have fun solving and riddles and playing games with their family.”
Amenities of the 80-acre Meadowbrook Park, which opened in June 2019, offer many possibilities for challenges. There’s the Treeline Adventure Playground complete with a zip line, Meadowbrook Hill, three lakes, four miles of trails, a musical playground, pickleball courts, and outdoor fitness equipment.
The Amazing Family Race will begin at 4 p.m. in MBPC’s Rosewood Room. The cost per individual for this two-hour event is $10 for Johnson County residents or $11 for nonresidents. Two different family rates are being offered, depending on the number of participants. For up to seven people, the rate is $40 for Johnson County residents or $44 for nonresidents. For up to four people, the rate is $30 for residents or $33 for nonresidents. Cost of admission includes a victory dinner.
