Ernie Miller Park Friday Programs offered on July 10, 17, & 24

Animal Tales Storytime

Bring the family to the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s Ernie Miller Park for educational and entertaining Friday Family Programs inside the Ernie Miller Nature Center during July. The programs last about 45 minutes and are designed for all ages. Physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be observed during this program.

To find these programs in the My JCPRD Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all, and then under nature & outdoors. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “nature programs.”

July presentations are:

  • July 10: WILDLIFE WEBS (July 10) [course ID 32854] - Every animal plays an important role in the food chain. Help construct three food chains and see a live animal from each one.  Find out who eats who.
  • July 17: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE SMELLY [course ID 32856] - Take a different look at some of the not-so-glamorous animals around such as spiders, snakes, and skunks. Learn why they are important to our lifestyles and environment. Live snakes and spiders will be displayed.
  • July 24: BATS  [course ID 32857] - Explore the dark and mysterious world of Kansas bats. Learn about these amazing and misunderstood flying mammals. Discover how we benefit from them and how we can help protect them.

Programs begin at 7 p.m. A charge of $3 per person helps cover the cost of the programs; children two and under are free.  To encourage physical distancing, participation in these programs is being limited to 20 people per session, and preregistration is required. For more information or to register by phone, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on “Register for Activities,” and complete a course ID search for any of the course IDs listed above.

These programs would normally be presented at the park’s outdoor amphitheater, but because that facility is undergoing construction, they have been moved inside the nature center this year. For more information about Friday Family Programs, call (913) 826-2800.
