Experience local talent at Senior Follies on Sept. 21 at Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center

Senior Follies

Experience an exciting Saturday afternoon of great entertainment for the whole family in late September, during the annual Senior Follies presented by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.

For the first time, this variety show featuring a wide variety of local  talent, will be offered at two different times on Saturday, Sept. 21. One show will take place beginning at 11a.m., while the other will begin at 3 p.m. Both will take place in The Black Box Theatre located inside the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center at 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park. Each show is expected to last about two hours.

About 10 acts will be presented, including singers, dancers, musicians, and comedians. No additional acts are being sought at this time.

JCPRD hosted the first follies event in 2007 as the Men’s Follies. In fall 2010, a Women’s Follies event was introduced and was also well received. The following year the events were merged into a single Senior Follies, which was also successful. The event has taken place in a variety of venues including Shawnee Mission South High School, Johnson County Community College, and the Jewish Community Center before taking a hiatus from 2014 to 2018.

Tickets for this event are $3 per person for Johnson County residents or $4 per person for nonresidents, and can be obtained by calling (913) 826-2830. As configured for this event, The Black Box Theatre seats about 140 people and organizers anticipate both shows will fill.

The My JCPRD Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
