An intergenerational program being offered in mid- and late-September in Ernie Miller Park allows children ages three to six with a parent or guardian to explore park trails as the sun sets.
The program is called Twilight Hike and is offered at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, and again at the same time on Friday, Sept. 27. Both programs take place at the park, which is located at 909 North Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe. Participants will listen for nocturnal sounds such as the cricket's chorus and the barred owl's call, and then gather around a cheery fire ring for stories, songs, and a tasty treat. Participants should bring a flashlight. An adult must register with each child.
To find this program in the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s My JCPRD Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under preschool and then under nature & outdoors. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “adventure walk.”
The cost for one 90-minute session is $7 per person, including adults, for Johnson County residents or $8 per person for nonresidents. Preregistration is required. For more information or to register by phone, call (913) 831-3359. To register online, visit the district's website at www.jcprd.com, click on “Register for Activities,” and perform a course ID search for 23836 for the Sept. 13 session, or 23837 for the Sept. 27 session.
The My JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches.
