Worthy Company -The Poetry and Perspective of William Stafford (Ages 10 & older)

Saturday, January 5, 2019

In 2009, Stanford professor John Felstiner published a book titled, Can Poetry Save the Earth? Knowing an entire book of poetry was not something everyone would enjoy, NPR challenged the professor to pick just one poem that could save the world if everyone were to read it. Without pause, Felstiner chose a “The Well Rising,” written by Kansas native William Stafford. This January marks the 105th year since Stafford’s birth, join Olathe author and educator Jeffrey Fouquet for poems, stories, and images that share the concerns, sensibilities, and inspiration of a life lived in awe of the natural world and all it has to teach us. Even if you know nothing of poetry, nature, or William Stafford, we promise that on this blustery afternoon, you will certainly feel like you are in worthy company. *This program is targeted for nature-enthusiasts of all ages, but will be most appreciated by those ten years of age and older.
