Summer is in full-swing and if you’re looking for a place to cool off, the Shawnee Mission Park beach is now open, and the Kill Creek Park Beach and Marina open for the season on June 1.
The Shawnee Mission Park Marina is temporarily closed due to renovations, and boat rentals including canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and pedal boats, are not available at this time. Regular beach hours at Shawnee Mission Park are noon to 6 p.m. on every day of week except Tuesdays and Thursdays, when the beach closes at 5 p.m. At Kill Creek Park, beach and marina hours are noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. The KCP beach and marina are closed Saturdays through Wednesdays.
At both beaches, regular daily beach admission rates for children 12 and under and adults 60 and older is $4 for Johnson County residents or $6 for nonresidents. Admission for adults 13 to 59 is $6 for Johnson County residents or $8 for nonresidents. Kill Creek Park Beach accepts cash only.
For 2023, the Shawnee Mission Park Beach will again be offering weekly opportunities for open water swim training from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Advanced online registrations are required by 10 a.m. on the day of the open water swim training session, and walk-ins will not be accepted.
The Shawnee Mission Park Beach will continue its season through Aug. 13 and The Kill Creek Park Beach and Marina will be open through Aug. 4.
Rentals at the Kill Creek Park Marina take place at the beach house. Regular hours are Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. and rentals are available from noon to 1 p.m. or 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The number of available boats is limited, and rentals must be completed at the facility the day of and is cash only. No credit or debit cards are accepted. Rental rates for kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and canoes are $21 per hour for Johnson County residents and $23 for nonresidents. Pedal boats are not available at Kill Creek Park.
Also, during the A Day in the Park event on Saturday, June 3, admission to the Shawnee Mission Park Beach is free during regular beach hours.
Shawnee Mission Park is located at 7900 Renner Road in Shawnee and Lenexa. Kill Creek Park is located at 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe.
