JCPRD-operated aquatic facilities to end their regular seasons in early August

You know summer is winding down when beaches and marinas start closing for the season. 

Three facilities that are part of JCPRD, Shawnee Mission Park Beach & Shawnee Mission Park Marina located at 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa; and Kill Creek Park Beach and Marina, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, will be winding down for the fall.  

Shawnee Mission Park Beach

Through Aug. 7

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Noon to 4 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, Thursday:  Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sunday: Noon to 6 p.m.

Please note: the beach will at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7

Open Water Swim Training

Through Aug. 4

  • Tuesday, Thursday: 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Park 
  • Participants must register online in advance, and swimmers are also required to have and wear their own tow float buoy.

Kill Creek Park Beach and Marina

Through Aug. 5

  • Thursday, Friday: Noon to 3 p.m.

Shawnee Mission Park Marina

Through Aug. 7 

  • Open Daily 
  • Available boat rental times: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Aug. 13 - Sept. 5

  • Open weekends only
  • Available boat rental times: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.

Please note: the marina will close at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5

All boat rentals are one hour. Walk-ins should plan to take about 30 minutes to check in, so advance registrations are highly recommended at Shawnee Mission Marina and can be made online

Canoeing on SMP Lake
