Variety of leagues begin soon at JCPRD courses

Posted on April 1, 2022 at 11:29 AM by Becky Burnside

Six leagues are gearing up to begin play in late March or early April at the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s Tomahawk Hills and Heritage Park golf courses. Two 2022 leagues at HPGC have already filled and other leagues have already held organizational meetings or have even begun play, but the golf season is just getting started and, if space is available, players can join at anytime.

Leagues starting at Tomahawk Hills in Shawnee are: Tomahawk Hills Men’s Golf League, Tomahawk Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association, the Tomahawk Hills Women’s Golf Association, and the Tomahawk Hills Working Ladies Intermediate Golf League.

Heritage Park is again offering the online Spark.golf League which began in 2021. Not a league, but HPGC also offers a Men’s Club with 12 weekend events. Unfortunately, HPGC’s Tuesday Night Men’s League and Senior Men’s Golf League have already filled. The Heritage Park Ladies Golf League is not playing in 2022, so consider the women’s leagues at Tomahawk instead.

Both HPGC and THGC are offering the new TwilighTour eclub league.

Fun golf and camaraderie are the main goals of the Tomahawk Hills Men’s Golf League for patron and annual members. Individual or team formats change nightly, and a season-long point system is kept for scoring league play. This league runs for two nine-week sessions through the summer and plays every Wednesday with tee times between 3 and 6 p.m. beginning May 5. To register or to request more information, call 913-631-8000 ext. 2.

The Tomahawk Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association is open to ages 50 and older and will golf every other Tuesday morning beginning April 12. Participants must purchase a Senior Patron Card for $55 and pay senior dues of $50. These fees entitle participants to many discounts and are used to provide prizes for each tournament.  For more information and an application, go to jcprd.com/446/Senior-Leagues.

The Tomahawk Hills Women’s Golf Association will hold its annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, April 6 at 8 a.m. The group is open to women of all levels of play. Both nine- and 18-hole leagues are offered. April is practice month with tee times set aside each Wednesday morning for those who can be there. Official league play will run from May 4, through Oct. 12, with weekly events, tournaments, and the Rock 'N’ Roll Golf Invitational on June 1. Oct. 12 will be the "end of the league" fun day! Participants must purchase a Golf Patron Card, which varies in cost based on the holder’s age and residency, and pay the association registration fee of $40.   Register online at jcprd.com/445/Tomahawk-Hills-Womens-Golf-Association. For more information on the Tomahawk Hills Women’s Golf Association, call Pat Kalicki at 913-599-6922 or the Tomahawk Hills Golf Course Pro Shop at 913-631-8000.

The Tomahawk Hills Working Ladies Intermediate Golf League is designed for intermediate golfers. Preliminary rounds run every Thursday in April with event play starting May 5. Tee-off times are between 4 and 6 p.m. To join the league, there is fee of $45, plus an optional $5 for hole-in-ones. Green fees are $16, payable weekly. For more information, call Kathy Bexton at 913-645-1904.

Men’s Club Weekend Events at HPGC are for patron and annual members and involve 12 weekend events between April 9 and Oct. 2. The club offers a variety of formats including individual and team competitions. The signup deadline is April 3. For more information, go to jcprd.com/307/Mens-Club-Weekend-Events

Now back for a second year, the coed Spark.golf League at Heritage Park Golf Course plays at 5 p.m. Wednesdays beginning May 4. Spark is a nine-hole, social league organized to be casual and fun, with a touch of friendly competition. This program uses an app and lets participants play as little or as much as their schedules allow. There is no cost to join the leagues, and prepaid costs are as little as $21.60 per round. Find more information about this league at jcprd.com/1670/Spark-Golf.

The new TwilighTour eclub offered at both THGC and HPGC involves 1:1 matches each week between April 5 and June 12. Win-Tie-Loss record from each player’s best five rounds will be considered for the season points total. Season dues are $30, including $20 towards the season prize pool.
