Camping, boating, fishing, and shooting, among this summer’s offerings at TRAC
Posted on May 28, 2021 at 1:41 PM by Becky Burnside
Whether you want to camp, hone some outdoor skills, see the Perseid Meteor Shower away from city lights, have fun with boats and fishing, enjoy shooting at the archery and BB-gun ranges, or try fishing with the family, JCPRD’s TimberRidge Adventure Center is planning a family-oriented summer program for you!
Upcoming programs include: a Family Fun Camping Event on June 11; Family Fun Outdoor Skills on June 12, Water Front Family Fun Time for Families on June 13 and July 11, an astronomy program called A Trail of Stardust - Perseid Meteor Shower on Aug. 13, Shooting Sports Family Fun on June 27 and July 25, and Fishing Family Night on Aug. 20. Advance registration is required for all of these programs. For programs requiring a valid Kansas Fishing License for ages 16 and older, note that these will not be sold onsite. JCPRD fishing permits are not required at the TimberRidge site.
TimberRidge Adventure Center is a 200-plus acre facility including a challenge course, climbing tower, and three ponds, and is adjacent to Kill Creek Park, which JCPRD also owns and operates. TimberRidge, which was dedicated in 2002, is accessible via an entrance which is separate from and south of the main entrance to Kill Creek Park. The TimberRidge entrance is located at 12300 South Homestead Lane, Olathe. With the exception of an annual early spring open house, the facility is accessible only by reservation or as part of programming.
Family Fun Camping Event
on June 11 is for ages three and older and will give participants an opportunity to enjoy a night of family camping at TimberRidge. Campers will check in between 4 and 6 p.m. Families need to bring their own equipment and food. Park shelter restrooms will be open and available for use by campers. No staff will be onsite overnight. Families need to be packed up and offsite by 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. Alcohol of any kind is prohibited during this event.
The cost for this 19-hour program is $25 for up to three children and two adults, or $28 per family of five for nonresidents. The cost for additional campers is $5 per person.
Although participating in the camping event is not a prerequisite, campers may want to consider also registering up for
