Posted on August 27, 2020 at 1:15 PM by Becky Burnside
Hours for the remainder of JCPRD’s 2020 beach and marina operations at Shawnee Mission Park have now been announced. Because it is based on the current plans of local school districts, this schedule is subject to change.
Participation at both facilities, which are running with modified operations this year to encourage physical distancing and a safe environment for visitors and staff in response to COVID-19, requires advance reservations in specified timeframes, which can be made online at JCPRD.com. Shawnee Mission Park is located at 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa.
The Shawnee Mission Park Marina will be open daily through Labor Day with reservable one-hour rental times at 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm. For the marina’s post-Labor Day schedule through Sept. 20, rental times on Monday through Friday will be 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and weekend rental times for Saturday and Sundays are 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm, 4 pm and 5:30 pm.
The marina offers boat rentals including canoes, pedal boats, kayaks, and paddle boards. Rental rates are $20 per hour for Johnson County resident or $22 per hour for nonresidents. Additional information can be found at
JCPRD’s other marina operation at Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, completed its 2020 operations on Aug. 9.
The Shawnee Mission Park Beach ended its Thursday through Sunday summer operations on Aug. 23, but will be open Saturdays and Sundays - plus Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day - through Sept. 13. For these days, visitors can choose from one of two time blocks offered from noon to 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Space is limited per time block to allow for physical distancing. Beach admission rates for children 12 and under are $4 for Johnson County residents or $4.50 for nonresidents. Admission for adults ages 13 to 59 is $6 for Johnson County residents or $6.50 for nonresidents, and ages 60 and older are $4 for Johnson County residents or $4.50 for nonresidents.
