June & July 2021 - Friday Night Nature Programs
Bring the family to the NEW outdoor amphitheater at Ernie Miller Park on Friday evenings this summer for entertainment and educational experiences. For more information, call (913) 826-2800. Each program is approximately 45 minutes to one hour in length and begins at 7 pm. In case of inclement weather, including extreme heat, program will be held indoors.
Times: 7:00 - 7:45 pm
$3.50 per person
Advanced registration required.
Children age two and under are free but must register.

June 4 – Owls: Eyes of the Night Great Horned, Barred, and Screech owls make Ernie Miller Park their home. Meet three live owls as we discover more about these creatures of the night.
June 11 - Voices in the Wild Our national parks and remaining wild spaces exist because of the powerful, passionate words of our keenest observers. This all-ages, multimedia program will feature excerpts and footage from important works and tell the story of the brave people who have helped preserve and protect our planet. The program will also feature animals that have benefited from these voices.
June 18 – Stories in the Park Join our park staff as we share stories of animal encounters, mysterious legends, and tales to tickle your funny bone. All ages are welcome to experience in the wonder and magic of storytelling.
June 25 – Bats Explore the dark and mysterious world of Kansas bats. Learn about these amazing and misunderstood flying mammals. Discover how we benefit from them and how we can help protect them.
July 9 – Wildlife Webs Every animal plays an important role in the food chain. Help construct three food chains and see a live animal from each one. Find out who eats who.
July 16 – Good, Bad, and Smelly Take a different look at some of the not-so-glamorous animals around such as spiders, snakes, and skunks. Learn why they are important to our lifestyles and environment. Live snakes and spider will be displayed.
July 23 – Snakes Alive! Why is it that these creatures seem so terrifying? Could all the stories you have heard about snakes be true? See Kansas snakes as we explore the facts and fallacies of these legless wonders of the natural world.
July 30 – Down by the Pond Ponds are a wonderful way to teach children about nature, animals, and ecosystems. Please join us for an all-ages, multimedia celebration of the fascinating interactions, inhabitants, and characteristics of freshwater ponds. Through engaging poems, puppets, and stories, attendees will meet some of the wonderful critters who call these watering holes home.
