Weather Guidelines

Lightning Guidelines

  • We will not start or continue any activity when a thunderstorm or tornado warning has been issued for the area surrounding our fields.
  • We will not start any activity if we see lightning or hear thunder.
  • If we have seen lightning or heard thunder, we will not start or re-start any activity until 30 minutes after we see the last lightning strike or hear the last clap of thunder.
  • The best place to be when lightning is in the area is in your car.  Do not stay under trees or shelters if lightning is in the area - this will NOT protect you from lightning strikes.
  • Parents, players, and spectators can inform coaches, field marshals, and referees about any signs of lightning or news about severe weather warnings.  Field marshals, referees, and/or league coordinator will decide when practices/games should be suspended due to severe weather and communicate the decision appropriately.

Extreme Temperature Guidelines

  • We recommend that our teams do not start or continue any activity when the temperature and/or heat index/wind chill is above 105 degrees F or below 32 degrees F.
  • If the temperature is above 90 degrees F, we will stop for water breaks every 15 minutes during games and practices.

To Protect our Fields

  • We will not start any activity on our fields when it is raining hard.
  • We will not start or re-start any activity when the fields are very wet and deemed unsafe for play by JCPRD staff.
The league coordinator and/or field marshal will decide when the fields are playable and will communicate this decision via the league rain-out line: 913-686-6030 for JCPRD and 913-578-5319 for Stump Park.
