Outdoor Skills: Archery - Beginning (Ages 8-12)

Monday & Wednesday May 7th & 9th, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm 

Experience the challenging sport of archery in this coed class designed for beginners. Safety, basic fundamentals, techniques, and equipment will be covered. Participants will have time to practice and develop their skills. Equipment is provided. For more information call (913) 826-2800. Instructor: Rosy Jennemann. Astronomy: Backyard BasicsConstellations Photo

Friday May 11th, 2018 10:00 pm -11:00 pm

Learn the basics of backyard astronomy, no telescope required. This one hour program will go over the basics of simple astronomy, using no more than your own eyes, a star map, and a flashlight. We will view seasonally visible constellations and learn their stories. In case of rain or clouds, an indoor version of the program will be presented. Advanced registration required. Cost is $4/person for residents and $5/person for non-residents.Register online.

Intergenerational Camping: Mom & Me Camping Event

Friday May 18th, 2018 6:00 pm - 8:30 am

CampingLooking for some unplugged time with your kids? Come enjoy an overnight experience together in the great outdoors! Event will begin with tent set-up and dinner, followed by a sunset hike and campfire. Programmed activities end at 9 pm. Group breakfast will be available at 7 and event ends by 8:30 am. Don’t have a tent, but want to come? Rent one from us for just $15. Limited supply. You will need to bring bedding and other supplies. This is a great way to try camping without purchasing all the equipment. For more information call Outdoor Adventure Specialist Lysa Holladay Dvorak (913) 856-8849. No pets allowed for this event. Nature & Outdoors: Family Fun Time (Ages 8 & Older)

Sunday June 3rd, 2018 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Get outdoors!! Each month archery, bb guns, boating, and fishing will be offered fromkid shooting bb gun 1:30 - 4:30 pm.  Participants may come and go or stay for entire event.  Families will rotate through the activities at their own pace.  Must pre-register for event online, no drop-ins. For more information call Outdoor Adventure Specialist Lysa Holladay (913) 856-8849. Advanced registration required. Fee is non-refundable. In case of inclement weather, program may be cancelled. Cost is $15/person for residents and $17/person for non-residents. Register online.

Perseid Meteor ShowerAstronomy: A Trail of Stardust - The Perseid Meteor Shower

Sunday August 12th, 2018 10:00 pm-12:00 am

Join us for the chance to see some of nature’s fireworks and a personal tour of the August night sky. There will be a short indoor presentation followed by a guided night sky tour. There will be a short walk to reach our viewing location. Feel free to bring your own blanket or chair. You may bring binoculars but they are not required. In case of clouds or rain, there will be a related indoor program. Advanced registration required.Cost is $9/person for residents and $10/person for non-residents.  Register online.
