Daytrips

Let us take the worry out of driving and planning as you enjoy a full day of entertainment, education, and fun.  Prices for daytrips include tickets, admission, guided tours, meals (unless noted), tips, transportation, and a tour escort.  Trips depart from Antioch Park in the lower level of the north parking lot.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time for motorcoach boarding.

Day Trip: Walk and Ride on the Wild Side 

Camels and zebras and chimps…oh my!  Travel to Springfield, Mo and come face to face with over 450 animals in this drive-thru open-window bus safari.  Make friends in no time, as you offer them food straight out of your hand.   Just as that adventure is complete, explore Fantastic Caverns. Enjoy a Jeep-drawn tram all the way through the cavern. Experience the stillness and natural splendor of a 150 year old underground treasure.  In between locations, break for a delicious meal.

Day Trip: Explorations & Adventure

Experience the closest thing the Kansas plains have to a safari. Embark on a tour of the Cedar Cove Feline Sanctuary and learn about the large exotic cats that live there. After lunch travel to Chanute, Kan., and see the Martin & Osa Johnson Safari Museum. Relive the couples’ travels through Africa, the South Pacific Islands, and more.

Day Trip: Follow the Yellow Brick Road

We’re off to see…Wamego! Experience a guided tour of the Columbian Theatre, to see rare paintings from the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.  Marvel at the Oz Museum with over 2000 items on exhibit from the movie. Brief stop at the famous Dutch Mill landmark.

Day Trip: Heroes and History of Fort Scott

Visit the Fort Scott National Historic Site and explore an interpretation of the 1840s era through exhibits, period décor, and original structures.  After lunch at Lyons Twin Mansions, hop aboard a trolley for a guided tour around town.  After the trolley ride, visit the “Unsung Heroes” exhibit at the Lowell Milken Center, as a tour guide introduces the group to a hall full of men and women who have earned the title of “hero”.

Social Outings

Hit the town on a social outing to discover a new city, a boutique, restaurant, or local event.  Meal costs are on your own, and transportation will be in district vehicles.  Outings depart from Antioch Park.

Social Outing: Discover Downtown Emporia, Kansas

Walk and explore geology and natural history museums, art centers, and historical buildings. Visit the college campus or shop for antiques.

Social Outing: An Evening with Patsy Cline 

Always…Patsy Cline, takes the audience to the moment Louise Seger, friend and pen-pal of Patsy Cline, learned of her idol’s death.  Hear the songs that made Patsy famous, including “Walkin’ After Midnight”, “Stupid Cupid”, and “Shake Rattle and Roll”.  Experience the inspiration for her songs through this unique vantage point.  Enjoy lunch before the show.

Social Outing: Rev Up Those Engines

Gaze at some of the most beautiful classic cars in town at Gateway Classic Cars and the Kansas City Automotive Museum.  Tour the facilities and hear about these meticulously kept cars of yesteryear!   Peek under the hood and ogle over the machines they just don’t make these days!  After, enjoy a delicious lunch.
