All About The Black Box Theater

Inside the AHC is a state-of-the-art black box performance space, featuring complete flexibility with a maximum seating capacity of 300. Overhead, the entire space is covered with a "tension grid" allowing technicians to walk above the playing space AND audience. Equipment can be hung above the grid, allowing easy access to hang and focus lights, adjust sound speaker placement, and install and run special effects of all kinds.

The Theatre In the Park at the AHC

The Theatre in the Park is the resident theatre company of the AHC and primary tenant of the black box theater, and produces shows year-round in the space.

The TTIP Theatre Academy also utilizes the space for theatre programming and classes for youth throughout the year, typically offering camps during the summer months, and week-long intensive academy produced shows during out-of-school times like Spring break, Fall break, and Winter vacation. The Theatre in the Park is thrilled to be the resident theatre company of the JOCO Arts & Heritage Center. As a member of the Fine and Performing Arts Department of JCPRD, in addition to its 5 show OUTDOOR season each summer at the TTIP Amphitheater inside Shawnee Mission Park, TTIP produces three to four shows INDOOR in the Winter and Fall in the new black box theater inside the AHC, and leads the TTIP Academy program which produces a number of shows for youth performers throughout the year.

The Black Box Theater is available for rent, and is the perfect venue for small performance groups, lectures, dance recitals... well, LOTS of stuff. We'd love to have you, so please drop us a note if the space appeals to you and YOUR group!
