Museum wins 2021 AASLH AWARD OF EXCELLENCE!

The Johnson County Museum was awarded the American Association of State and Local History’s 2021 Award of Excellence for its response to COVID-19.

The museum’s pandemic response included: a collecting initiative; a temporary exhibition designed to inspire and embolden the community; a partner-supported community art exhibition and public programming to help unpack the pandemic and address mental health needs; and speRising-to-the-Challenge-short-no-violatorcial educational programming to offer safe and nurturing spaces for childcare, summer camps, and virtual learning hubs, as well as curriculum guides to help older students better understand the historic context of the pandemic and social justice movements.

Pre-registration is recommended for KidScape. Two sessions are available: 9:00 am -12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm).

Paul McCobb is the greatest American designer you didn’t know you knew. McCobb designed functional and versatile items for the postwar American consumer in the Mid-Century Modern (MCM) era. He sought to improve the way Americans lived through mass produced yet high-quality pieces that were available in department stores as well as high-end galleries.
