Cattails by Arlie Regier

Regier Restoration 1

Do you recognize these sculptures in Shawnee Mission Park near Shelter #4, north of the marina?

In early 2022, a JCPRD staff member discovered the story behind these "hidden gems' after discovering a 1971 news article in the Kansas City Star! The pieces were created by Arlie Regier, a Johnson County sculptor and former Nallwood Junior High School industrial arts instructor, whose artwork is in collections around the world and have been featured in Marvel© and DC© comics-related movies.

After the discovery of this article and tracing Arlie's roots in the area, JCPRD was able to connect and visit with Arlie's family, include his wife Sue and son, Dave, to talk about Regier and his artwork.
