What could be more fun than a family campout? Whether you are an experienced camper or just looking for an activity to share with your family and friends, this is your opportunity to sleep under the stars in the safety of one of the most beautiful and spacious parks in Johnson County.

Great American Campout Benefits

In addition to spending a night under the stars in Shawnee Mission Park, our lucky campers will receive passes for a Pedal Boat Rental, admission to the Beach, and tickets to a great on-stage production of The Little Mermaid at The Theatre in the Park. And as a special bonus, you will receive early admittance to the show.

You may register by phone, walk in, or complete the Great American Campout registration form and fax or mail in (see below).

Packet Pick-Up

Packet information may be downloaded electronically by clicking on the links below. A limited number of hard copies will be available the day of the event upon check-in. Enter through the Theatre in the Park entrance located at 7710 Renner Road and follow the signs to the check-in area located in the grass field just southeast of the Theatre. Theatre gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday

Campout Informational Documents

Campout Schedule of Activities


  • 2-6 p.m.
    • Camp site set-up
    • Marina*/ Trail / Walking / Fishing
    • Swimming / Pedal Boating / Family Time
  • 6:45 p.m. - Early Admittance to Theatre
  • 8:30 p.m. - Theatre Production - “The Little Mermaid”
  • 10:45 p.m. - Campfire and S'mores at Camp Site
  • 11:30 p.m. - Quiet Time / Bed Time

*Marina and beach passes are good for all day Sunday.


  • 7 a.m. - Bagels and Juice
  • 9:30 a.m. - Clean Up and Take Down
  • 10 a.m. - Event Ends*

*Marina passes are good for the remainder of the day.

What to Bring to the Campout

Campers will need to bring their own camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, etc.). Meals are not provided but community grills are located throughout the park. 

S’mores will be available after the show on Saturday, and bagels, juice and milk will be provided Sunday morning.
