Off-Leash Areas

Take your dog out to the park! JCPRD off-leash areas are a treat for everyone, not just your dog. With plenty of acreage to run and play, taking your best friend along for fresh air and exercise is pure fun. Visitors should adhere to posted rules and regulations and dogs should be able to be controlled by their owner when off-leash.

Grab your best friend and enjoy the parks!

For the enjoyment and safety of all patrons and pets, the Off-Leash Area Code of Conduct/Rules apply.

Johnson County Code of Regulations (Violations may result in citations and fines)

  • Section 2.1.3 (a) - Dogs may only be allowed off-leash while within the designated boundaries of DOG OFF-LEASH AREAS (see maps for designated boundaries of these facilities)
  • Section 2.1.3 (d) - No dog shall be allowed off leash in any Dog Off-Leash Area if said dog is known to have bitten any person or animal at any time.

Code of Conduct (Violators may be required to leave the premises)

The following Code of Conduct for Dog Off-Leash Areas has been established to provide for the safety of park patrons and their pets, as well as for the protection of park resources:

  • Handlers must leash and/or remove their dog(s) from an off-leash area at the first sign of serious, unprovoked, aggressive behavior;
  • Dogs must be under the control and in view of their handler at all times;
  • Handlers are limited to a maximum of three dogs per visit;
  • Handlers must carry one leash for each dog;
  • Dogs with spiked collars must remain leashed at all times;
  • Dogs less than 12 weeks of age are not allowed in the area;
  • All dogs must have current vaccinations, evidenced by visible tag(s);
  • Female dogs in heat are not allowed in off-leash areas;
  • To help reduce the potential spread of parasites, handlers should pick-up and dispose of their dog’s waste in the collection containers provided;
  • Children less than 16 years of age must be under adult supervision while within the boundaries of the off-leash areas;
  • No food is allowed in the off-leash areas as some dogs can become aggressive or bite hands carrying food, especially the hands of children.

Assumption of Risk

To all those entering the designated Dog Off-Leash Areas, you are aware dogs are un-leashed and loose. Despite the best efforts of any dog owner/handler, a dog may act in an unpredictable manner. Dog owners/handlers are entirely responsible for their dog’s actions and accept the risk of allowing their dog(s) to interact with people, other dogs, existing park and lake conditions, and district employees and vehicles in the performance of their duties. Owners are legally responsible for any injury caused by their dog(s)
