Only one application per person is allowed. Applicants with multiple applications will be disqualified from participating in the lottery.
Hunter must comply with all Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Deer Hunting Regulations for the Management Area being hunted.
KS residency and valid KS archery permit and deer harvest authorization tag(s) are required.
Hunting of white-tailed deer, only.
Only antlerless deer can be harvested in 2023/2024.
No use of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s) or Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV’s) permitted.
Use of face paint is prohibited (use of facemasks allowed while in tree stand, only)
Filming of hunting activities is prohibited.
No hunting within 100 feet of a "Closed Area" (strictly enforced). Closed Areas include all trails, buildings, play areas, campsites, parking lots, mowed/maintained areas, and private property boundaries.
Deer carcasses must be fully covered during removal, loading, and transport process (No ATV/UTV use permitted, carts or sleds recommended)
Harvested deer may be cleaned (gutted) within the park property but all entrails must be at least 100 feet from a closed area. No deer carcass may be deposited on County Property or within a park trash receptacle.
Special Access Archery Permits are valid for the current year’s deer season dates including any extended archery deer seasons applicable to the property.
Hunters must carry and visibly display (on person) the Special Access Archery Permit while hunting or walking to hunting site. Placards are required for vehicle dash.
Special parking is provided for the Special Access Archery locations.
Portable tree stands are required and must be identified with a visible label containing the hunter's contact information. Any structure left beyond the permit window is a violation and may be removed by park staff as abandoned property.
Archers are required to use a full-body safety harness (fall arrest system).
Light pruning of vegetation for shooting lanes and to access trees is allowed.
Bowhunting will be allowed one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
All hunting shall be conducted from an elevated tree stand that is at least 10 feet in height and faces the interior of the hunting zone. The tree stands and shooting lanes will be located in such a way as to direct arrows to the interior of the property and to prevent any arrow from landing closer than fifty (50) yards to any property line.
Limited Access Archery Permits are only valid for Shawnee Mission Park and one hunter. The permit is not transferable to another person or property.
Tracking Deer:
Do not enter any private property without the permission of the owner.
If tracking after dark, the Johnson County Park Police must be notified by calling the non-emergency dispatch number at (913) 782-0720 and asking for a park police officer.
The transportation of a carcass along any public park right-of-way is prohibited unless it is covered or hidden from public view.
Disabled hunters should contact Natural Resource staff if special accommodations are needed.
Avoid negative interactions with members of the public. Any case of harassment must be reported immediately to Park Police (913) 782-0720.
