Healthy Meal Plans
CHAMPSS
The Johnson County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Nutrition Program is pleased to offer a dining opportunity called CHAMPSS, a program for adults 60 or older and their spouses.
CHAMPSS, which stands for Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors, is offered through the Older Americans Act, a federally funded program, and the Nutrition Program/AAA, in partnership with many Hy-Vee stores in the area.
Through the program, appropriately aged adults may receive a nutritious meal 7 days a week any time between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the dining area of the grocery store. The Hy-Vee dietitian-approved menu allows seniors to select an entrée, fruit, and vegetable of their choice, along with bread and low-fat milk.
Johnson County Nutrition Program
The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) provides nutritious meals at six Neighborhood Centers. In addition, Neighborhood Centers offer a variety of services, activities, and educational programs for older individuals in the community.
AAA provides home-delivered meals to frail and elderly homebound residents, age 60+ and their spouse. An evaluation of need must be completed by an Area Agency on Aging assessor to qualify for home-delivered meals. Staff and volunteers deliver meals between 10:45 am and 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday.
Meals are planned to meet the nutritional needs of older adults. Diabetic meals are available.
