League Rules
Youth Basketball
Updated: Winter 2022
All Divisions
Basketball Size
- 1st & 2nd grade - Youth Size basketball (27.5") (These are provided on game day)
- Girls 3rd through High School- Standard women’s size basketball (28.5”).
- Boys 3rd through 8th grade - Standard women’s size basketball (28.5”).
- Boys High School - Standard men's size basketball (29.5").
Time-outs
- HS: 2 time-outs per half; 1 time-out per overtime; no carryover
- 5th- 8th: 2 30-sec time-outs per half (no carryover); 1 full timeout (carryover)
- 2nd-4th: 2 30-sec time-outs per half (no carryover); 1 time-out per overtime (no carryover)
Pressing
- Teams may NOT press once ahead by 20 points
Roster Limitations
- Players may NOT play on 2 teams within the same age group and same ability level / division
- The player in the highest school grade determines level of team.
Overtime
- 1st OT - 2 minutes
- 2nd OT - Sudden Death
High School Divisions
Timing
- Games will consist of two (2) 20-minute running clock halves. 2 minute overtime will be stop clock.
- EXCEPTION: Last 2 minutes of 2nd half with a 10 point spread or less
Foul Shots
- Shot on ALL Shooting Fouls
- Double bonus of each half (NO one-and-one)
5th - 8th Grade Divisions
Timing
- Games will consist of two stop clock halves
- EXCEPTION: 30 point spread
- 5th & 6th Grade — Two (2) 12-minute halves
- 7th & 8th Grade — Two (2) 14-minute halves
1st - 4th Grade Divisions
Timing
- Games will consist of four (4) 10-minute running clock quarters
- EXCEPTION: Last 2 minutes of 2nd half with a 10 point spread or less
- EXCEPTION: Clock will stop on all substitutions
Goal Height
- 2nd Grade - 8 feet
- 3rd Grade - 9 feet
- 4th Grade - 10 feet (free throws can be shot at either the 12 ft. or 15 ft. line)
Scoring
- 3 point shots will count as 3 points beginning in 3rd grade
If grades are combined, the goals will be set at the regulation height for the highest grade level. Coaches of the lower grade level may request their goal to be lowered to the regulation height for their grade level. Requests must be made with the Front Desk Supervisor a minimum of 5 minutes before game time.
Substitution Rules
- ALL Players must start one (1) quarter per game
- Substitution may occur freely
Double Team/Pressing
- Full Court pressing will not be allowed
- EXCEPTION: Full court man to man defense will be allowed by either team during the final 2 minutes of the game, only when there’s a 10 point spread or less (This exception does not apply to 2nd grade teams. If 2nd grade teams are playing 3rd grade teams, both coaches must agree to press at the captain's meeting. If consensus is not reached, there will be no press.)
- Teams must play man-to-man defense
- Double teams and traps are not allowed except in the lane
