8th Annual Olathe Medical Center's Women's Triathlon & Duathlon
Olathe Medical Center is proud to be the title sponsor of the Women's Triathlon, the only all women’s triathlon in Kansas. OMC’s Running Smart Event - FREE Mini-Running Eval [PDF]

This event features a sprint distance triathlon and a duathlon course in Kill Creek Park, and is a special event by Johnson County Park and Recreation District. This is a USAT Sanctioned Event. All age group athletes participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31st of this year (2015).

Triathlon Course
Swim: The swim course is 500 meters in length. The swim start will be a time trial start with two people entering the water every three seconds. Race morning, you will place yourself by the appropriate pace sign according to your swim time.


Bike: The bike course is a 10.6 mile partially hilly loop course held both within and outside the park boundaries.

Run: The run course is a 3.1 mile (5K) route on the Kill Creek Streamway Trail which adjoins with Kill Creek Park. This route provides some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the region. Aid stations are at transition and throughout the course.

Team: Participants also have the option to compete in this course as a team, in a relay format. Each individual of the team can complete one or two legs for the triathlon. There is a three member maximum on the team and at least two members are required in order to compete in the team category.

Duathlon Course
Run: The race will have a mass start for all duathletes on the park road. The first and second run is a 3.1 mile (5K) route on the Kill Creek Streamway Trail which adjoins with Kill Creek Park. The second run will be the same as the first run, and will be the same route as the triathletes.

Athena Category
This event includes an Athena Division. The division is 165 lbs. and over. The division age categories are 39 years of age and under, and 40 years of age and over. This age is based on the athlete’s age on December 31st of this year (2015). Participants are not eligible to compete in this division and in an age group division.

OMC Tri Clinics

FREE - Triathlon Training Clinic and Tri Tip Jam Sessions
JCPRD, along with Olathe Medical Center, the TRiKC Triathlon Club, and 19° Triathlon Coaching are pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Triathlon Training Clinic and Tri Tip Jam Sessions for women who would like to learn more about preparing for and excelling in the sport of triathlon. The Clinic and Jam Sessions are FREE and open to the public.

Saturday June 13, from 9 to 11am, triathletes will learn how improve their swim, bike and run times, and design their summer training program. Triathletes will be provided with the tools to become a more effective triathlete, whether they be a novice or seasoned athlete. There will be a question and answer session to address specific questions about personal training programs. After the presentation, triathletes can participate in a swim instruction clinic providing tips on how to become a better triathlon swimmer and how to prepare to swim in open water. This clinic will be held at the Kill Creek Beach House, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe, KS 66061.

Tuesday, August 4, there will be a Tri Tip Jam Session on how to become a better cyclist in the sport of triathlon. Triathletes will learn how to ride faster and improve hill climbing. This session will be held at Kill Creek Park Shelter 2. The instruction will start at 6:15pm and will be followed by riding the OMC Triathlon bike course.

Tuesday, August 18, there will be a Tri Tip Jam Session on how to become a better runner in the sport of triathlon and how to master transitions. Triathletes will learn how to improve their run technique, develop better pacing, and how to run on tired legs. The instruction Session will be followed by riding the OMC Bike Triathlon Course and the running the OMC Triathlon Run Course. This session will be held at Kill Creek Park at Shelter 2. The instruction will start at 6:15pm.

Open Water Swim
JCPRD will offer open water swim training for all athletes to train for this event. Shawnee Mission Park Beach will allow open water swim on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm starting May 26 through July 30. Cost is $4.00 per participant per visit ($4.50 per non-JoCo resident).

There will also be open water swim at Kill Creek Park Beach every Monday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm starting June 1 through September 7. Cost is $4.00 per participant per visit ($4.50 per non-JoCo resident).

The fee will be required per visit for open swim. All triathletes are welcome to train and all swimmers are asked to wear a swimsuit. Open water swimming fees DO apply for Johnson County and non-residents.

  • Kill Creek Park gates open to participants and spectators.
• Transition area opens
7:45 AM
  • Kill Creek Park gates closed to vehicle traffic. Anyone arriving after 7:45 will have to park outside Kill Creek Park in a designated lot.
• Transition area closes
8:00 AM
  • First heat will begin. A heat sheet will be provided prior to event day.

Awards
Awards will be presented to the top three female and team overall finishers in all of the courses. Individual awards will be presented to the winners of each registration category in accordance to the number of individual registered in that category.
