Meet the 2016 OMC Women’s Triathlon Ambassadors
Kristen Weigand
Kristen is not afraid to tri something new… see what we did there, “TRI”. The OMC Women’s event will be Kristen’s first triathlon. Kristen loves running the Kansas City Area trail systems and racing in ultras. She completed her first 50k in 2012 and her first 100 miler last year. She enjoys all things “working out” from teaching group exercise classes to weight lifting and trail running. When not working out or waiting tables she is hanging out with her 5 year old daughter Gretchen sewing and attempting craft projects.
Kristen’s words of advice to the beginner triathlete: “Step out of your comfort zone and “tri” something different. It is always about competition but with yourself, working to be more than you were yesterday.” #GiveItATri

Denise Sarver
The first triathlon Denise ever did was the 2009 OMC Women's Tri. She had been active her whole life, and was getting bored with gym workouts for exercise, so she started training for this triathlon. In fact, she did it on a borrowed bike. She had so much fun, she bought her own bike and has competed in the OMC Women's race every year. In addition, she has qualified numerous times for the Age Group Nationals, and completed the Kansas Ironman 70.3. Denise is a personal trainer who loves country music and cats.

Angela Rupp-Katzer
Angela started doing triathlons the year she was to turn 30. She decided that solely running all the time was too hard on her body so she taught herself how to swim and dug out an old bike. Although she almost quit after the first 100 meters in a pool, within 5 months she completed her first triathlon and has been addicted to them ever since. She is a firm believer that if you set your mind to something, no matter how challenging it may seem at the time, you can achieve it.
Angela loves the friends she has met through racing, and the positive vibe she gets from the races. Since that time 10 years ago, she has participated in multiple half Ironmans, Olympic distance and sprint triathlons as well as marathons, half marathons, duathlons, trail runs, etc. And in that time she has done the Olathe Women's Triathlon 3 times. Angela also works as a Nurse Practitioner in the Olathe Health System, and focuses on Functional Medicine where she helps patients find the root of their health problem rather than treating just the symptoms. She is a firm believer that your lifestyle, including your fitness and your nutrition, makes an enormous impact on your overall health and vitality.
