The Johnson County Park & Recreation District has always, and will continue to, put the safety of our participants and spectators at the highest priority.

Please know that in the wake of the senseless tragedy at the Boston Marathon, our Park Police are working cooperatively with other local law enforcement agencies to develop and implement heightened security measures at JCPRD events.

Olathe Medical Center's Women's Triathlon
Olathe Medical Center is proud to sponsor the Women's Triathlon, the first of its kind in Kansas. We are dedicated to improving the health of our community, including providing state-of-the-art medical care and encouraging healthy lifestyles. The OMC Courses
The women’s triathlon event features a Sprint Distance triathlon in Kill Creek Park, and is operated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. The swim (500 meters) is an out and back course with a standing water start. The bike course (10.6 miles) is a partially hilly loop course, held both within and outside the park boundaries. The run (3 miles) is routed on the Kill Creek Streamway trail which adjoin Kill Creek Park. This route provides some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the region. Aid stations are at transition and every mile on the run. ChampionChip timing-system will be used.

OMC Women’s Triathlon Clinics
Johnson County Park & Recreation District and Olathe Medical Center are proud to announce a partnership with Don Herron and the KC Triathlon Club who will be bringing triathlon educational opportunities to athletes competing or who are thinking about competing in this event. It is never too early to start your training and we want to give you some inside tips and training tools from local triathletes and nutritional information from professional Nutritionists from Olathe Medical Center on the importance of fueling your body during your training.

The following sessions will be on the Campus of Olathe Medical Center at the Olathe Health Education Center (address below).

1.) Saturday, April 27th from 9-11 am – Clinic for returning triathletes

2.) Saturday, June 1st from 9-11 am – Clinic for new triathletes or anyone interested in learning about the sport

KC Tri Club Swim, Bike, and Run Training Classes
To further enhance your training opportunities The KC Tri Club will be offering various trainings at Kill Creek Park starting at the Beach House on the following dates:

1.) Swim instruction at the beach - Monday, July 22, 6:30 pm - 8 pm

2.) Bike instruction and transition instruction - Tuesday, August 6, 6:30 pm - 8 pm

3.) Running instruction - Tuesday, August 20, 6:30 pm - 8 pm

These sessions will allow you to actually get a feel for the area and learn additional strategies about the sport. Contact Certified Race Director Chad Tower at (913) 826-2953 if you have any questions.

Open Water Swim
Open water swim at Kill Creek Park Beach will be on Monday’s from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm starting June 4th – September 9th. Cost is $4 per person, each visit.

Eligibility
This event is open to all women ages 15 years and older. Competitors under the age of 18 must have parental or guardian consent (see registration form below). Entry Deadline - Open Until Full
The mail-in deadline for the OMC Tri is usually scheduled for the end of August. The race is limited to the first 450 entrants.

Three OMC Triathlon Divisions:

1) Individual Division

All participants will be ranked in the following age divisions in the short and long course. Professionals will be in a separate division

20-24
25-29
30-34
35-39
40-44
45-49
50-54
55-59
60-64
65-69
70-74
75-79
80-84
85+
 

2) Teams Division
Teams are a great way to get your friends, co-workers or family members involved in a triathlon. Form a team in any one of these divisions: family, friends, and club.

3) Athena Division
In events where a weight class division is offered, the minimum weight will be 165 pounds for women, monitored by the event organizer. The weight class age categories for women shall be 39 years of age and under and 40 years of age and over. Participants are not eligible to compete in a weight class division and in an age group division at the same event. Heat Criteria
Heats begin at 7:30 am on the beach. All heats will be by age groups and start in 5 minute intervals. Refer to the USAT Rules & Regulations.

Two Event Orientation Days: Kill Creek Park
Both meetings will be held at Kill Creek Park at Shelter 2
(shelter is next to the beach parking lot). Swimmers are welcome to utilize open water hours after meeting.

First orientation: Monday, September 9th at 6:00 pm.

Second orientation: Friday, September 13th at 6:00 pm.


Triathlon Guidelines
1. An entrant may not transfer her entry. Substitutes will not be allowed to participate.
2. A helmet with an approved CPSC, ASTM or SNELL safety seal is required and must be worn and latched during the bike segment.
3. Participants will be provided with, and must wear, a bright colored swim cap during the swim segment.
4. Wet suits are not allowed if the water temperature is above 78 degrees.
5. Cycling positioning (drafting) is not allowed and will result in disqualification. A mount and dismount line is marked in transition. NO riding is allowed in transition.
6. Headphones will not be allowed.
7. The triathlon committee reserves the right to alter or cancel the event in case of inclement weather, or conditions beyond our control.

Awards
All entrants receive an event T-shirt and swim cap. Age group and team (each team member) awards given as follows:
1-5 entries
(1 award)
6-10 entries
(2 awards)
11-15 entries
(3 awards)
16-20 entries
(4 awards)
21+ entries
(5 awards)


Awards Ceremony

The award ceremony will follow the event at shelter 2.

After the race, JCPRD provides all race results online at kcrunningcompany.com.

Triathlon Post Race Activities: Health Screening
The Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon committee is pleased to bring you fun “post-race” activities. In 2013, the committee will offer onsite cholesterol/glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, women’s health information, and rehabilitation information. The cholesterol/glucose screenings along with all other services and information are free of charge. OMC encourages all participants, volunteers, family and friends to take advantage of this health information provided by Olathe Medical Center.
