| TimberRidge Adventure Center,
one of Johnson
County Park and Recreation District's premier facilities for teamwork
and team building, offers a wide range of opportunities for families,
friends and work groups to challenge themselves, learn
to communicate better,
solve
problems and work together.
Groups ranging from cub scouts to executive boards can experience
fun and excitement in a noncompetitive, safe and supportive atmosphere.
The main venue for these activities is the Center's professionally
certified challenge and ropes course featuring 22 low elements
and
a 200-foot zip line. With firsthand experience and group discussion,
TimberRidge participants explore and create problem-solving methods
that are readily adaptable to the challenges of day-to-day life.
In addition to the Challenge Course, TimberRidge offers other outdoor
activities including hiking, fishing, archery, canoes, and paddleboats.
Great Outdoor Setting
Located approximately five miles south of DeSoto in Olathe, Kansas,
TimberRidge Adventure Center encompasses over 200 acres of
diverse landscapes divided by
a series of ponds. The rugged southern half includes a box canyon and
provides opportunities for exploration and discovery among the
limestone outcroppings
and heavily wooded slopes. The more open northern half, composed of upland
prairie and scattered woodlands, is perfect for large group
events and activities.
In addition to being available for facilitated programs,
TimberRidge
is also used by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District
as the setting for a growing number of programs, including
summer camps,
weekend adventure programs, wellness retreats, the mother
daughter hike, the annual open house, and other special events.
Adventure and Challenge Course Opportunities
The Challenge Course is located atop the rugged southern
ridge of the TimberRidge Adventure Center property and consists
of
a dynamic series
of elements, each with its own team building or problem solving
objective. These activities can be customized to meet specific
personal growth
and team-building needs.
Here's a few objectives of this program:
- Build team trust
- Improve communication skills
- Enhance self-confidence
- Expand leadership skills
- Enjoy the great outdoors
The challenge-by-choice activities incorporate elements of fun and
excitement in a noncompetitive, safe, and supportive atmosphere.
TimberRidge experiences leave a lasting and meaningful impression.

Challenge Course
During a challenge course session, teams will have the opportunity
to participate in several different challenges that will test
the group both physically and mentally. They may swing across
a raging river, build a bridge across an archeological site
or find their way out of a dark cave. Other exciting team-building
activities might include escaping from a giant spider’s
web, exploring the rain forest, or testing balance while crossing
a volcano. New in Spring 2006, is the Hawks’ Nest Climbing
Tower. Come and see the view of TimberRidge from the perspective
of a hawk high atop the trees. In addition to the climbing tower,
we have also added several high elements to the challenge course.
Welcome Center
Registered groups and campers are greeted at the Welcome Center
upon arrival at TimberRidge. The Welcome Center includes a kitchen
and restroom facilities, and a meeting room that accommodates
up to 80 people, and a large outdoor deck which wraps around
the building, overlooking one of the ponds recently completed
in 2006.
