The outstanding parks and recreational resources managed by the Johnson
County Park and Recreation District are among Johnson County's most popular
- and valuable - community assets. Last year alone over six million visitations
were recorded in District parks and facilities.
The tremendous popularity of our parks and the wide variety of recreational
opportunities they provide is a reflection of the vital role the District
plays in making Johnson County one of the most livable communities in America.
Whether learning to sail on Shawnee Mission Park Lake, playing softball
or basketball in a recreational league, or just finding a peaceful space
to get away from it all, we encourage you to take the time to explore and
enjoy each and every one of our parks and facilities.
Ice Safety Advisory
The Johnson County Park & Recreation District does not measure ice thickness on its lakes, ponds or streams and is not in a position to determine whether it is safe to go onto any ice that may be present. While there are no restrictions prohibiting going onto the ice, the District does not encourage the public to do so as ice is hazardous. There are numerous web sites and other sources of information regarding ice safety and the District strongly suggests the public review this information prior to going onto any ice covered bodies of water located in District parks.
