A Great Community Deserves a Truly Great Park
Shawnee Mission Park, home to more than two million visitors a year, is one of Kansas City's premiere public spaces. The Johnson County Park & Recreation District is poised to make a significant and very rare addition to the park. And thanks to fund raising efforts currently underway by The Park and Recreation Foundation of Johnson County, Friends for Parks & Recreation, and the Johnson County Sertoma Club, and other not-for-profit organizations, you can be a part of it.

The Oak Ridge addition will open 363 acres of remarkable new parkland for the families of Johnson County and throughout the region. More than 100 acres of wildflower meadows and native prairie surrounded by 254 acres of rolling oak and hickory forest. All linked by miles of trails for running, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Wildlife is abundant here, so areas will be created to pause and enjoy this beautiful natural setting.

At the Head of the Trails and at the Heart of it All
With your support, Oak Ridge Lodge can become the region's premier trailhead and a welcoming country place in the style of the great Adirondack retreats. A place with warm, comfortable areas for family gatherings, group meetings, weddings, special events, corporate retreats, and receptions. Where you can gather around one of the fireplaces or enjoy the grounds beneath the spreading oaks. The magnificent views from the Lodge are ever changing as the forest below shifts from winter white to verdant green to the fiery colors of autumn. With the neighboring trailhead and warming hut for outdoor activities, it will truly be a park place unlike any other.

Here's How You Can Help
Through planning and foresight, much has already been accomplished - the master planning of the Oakridge Farm site, the purchase of all 363 acres, funding of native prairie restoration, landscaping, and miles of new trails, along with roads, parking and utilities. Just one key element remains, the completion of Oak Ridge Lodge.

More than $1 million of the cost has already been designated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. In addition, $250,000 in matching funds is available through a challenge grant from the Parks and Recreation Foundation of Johnson County. You can help pave the way to attaining this grant with a Terrace Breezeway Paver or Giving Tree contribution, or you can leave a lasting signature on our community by selecting the Naming Rights for one or more of the Oak Ridge Lodge community rooms and spaces.

If you would like to contribute to the community partnership that is dedicated to making Oak Ridge Lodge a reality, please email communityrelations@jocogov.org today.

And be sure not to miss the 2nd Annual Double Ogg Dare Festival on
Saturday, September 29, 2012. Details will be available here next spring.
Net proceeds from the event will help match The Park and Recreation
Foundation of Johnson County's challenge grant for the
development of this unique park site.
