The Special Population program of
the Johnson County Park and Recreation District provides fun, educational
and socializing activities for members of the Johnson County community
with special needs. Our programs include fun and exciting events
such as dances, movie nights, day trips and overnight stays. We
strive to make a positive impact by enhancing the lives of our special
participants and their families. |
For complete information please contact Kelly directly

In addition to the Special Populations programs and activities,
JCPRD participates in the Special Olympics. The
JCPRD Rangers, a sponsored Special Olympic team, participates in
all 22 seasonal Special Olympics sports. These range from low functioning
events such as race walking and bocce ball, to team sports including
basketball and baseball. Practices take place once or twice a week,
with two tournaments (area games and state) occurring at the end
of the regular season. Our goal as a Special Olympics program is
to offer the best possible environment and opportunity for our athletes
to succeed in. Our team is a part of the Kansas Special Olympics
program, and athletes are eligible to participate at 8 years of
age, and must register through JCPRD's on-line Activities catalog
or obtain a copy of the catalog at any Johnson County library. (A
Special Olympics physical form must be completed).
