Celebration: Ernie Miller Nature Center’s Birthday Celebration (All Ages) Sat., Sept. 18, 1-3 pm
Bring the family or scout group and help us celebrate the Nature Center’s 25th birthday! For years this has been a place for the young and young-at-heart to make memories, enjoy nature and have fun. Visit different stations for stories, animal presentations, crafts and more. For more information call (913) 764-7759.

Childcare: After Camp Child Watch (Ages 5-13) (Summer)
Do you need to pick up your child later than the camp is out? Consider the use of our child watch during these dates and times. Activities and supplies furnished for your child to enjoy the rest of their day. For 5½ hour sessions, bring a bag lunch. Please pick up all children no later than 5:30 pm. Late fees will be charged for late pick up. While this program can be used with any camp, the times and location offered align most closely with our Mad Science© camps.
   5-2 hr. sessions (Resident Cost: $60.00, Non-Resident Cost: $66.00)

Dance: Diva Pop Star Camp (Ages 5-8) (Summer)
Attention all pop star divas! Come dance like your favorite pop star! Each day we will begin with a warm-up and stretch to pop music. We will learn the latest moves from popular music videos and include some hip hop, street jazz, and Broadway musical styles. We will create our own pop performance - writing lyrics, putting together costumes and a dance routine to perform at the end of the camp. We will put on make-up and make our own microphone, and send letters to our favorite pop stars. Divas should pack a lunch for each day.

Just For Fun: Crossroads - Antioch Park, Shelter #1 (Ages 11-13) (Summer)
ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE

Locations: Antioch Park, Shelter #1 - 6501 Antioch Rd.

Crossroads Campers will swim, field trips, community service, arts and crafts, nature activities, games and team sports - and more. Site directors have B.A. degrees in recreation or education, with support staff majoring in related fields. All staff are trained in CPR, first aid and behavior management and become certified in a training for observation of child abuse and neglect.
Camp is 9am - 4pm, Mon - Fri. For working parents, staff supervision of self-selected activities will be provided from 7am to 5:30pm daily.
Note: Due to rain, gusty winds and heat advisory, lessons may be canceled.

*No camp Fri, 7/3, Mon, 5/31 & 7/5


IMPORTANT PARENTS INFO: - Fully license by the KS Dept. of Health and Environment.
Parent Orientation: Wednesday, May 26, 7pm at your camp location.
Forms: Parent/Guardians must complete and return the following forms for each camper 2 weeks prior to attending camp or they will be unable to participate. These forms are extremely important: Health History - Immunization records - Authorization for Emergency Medical Care - Personal Data Sheet Health forms can be downloaded from our JCPRD Children Services web page or they may be mailed upon registration.
Transfers: All transfer requests must be submitted in writing a minimum of one week prior to the week of camp either by email to info@jcprd.com or by fax to (913) 831-3311 and are subject to a $5 processing fee.
Lunches/Snacks: All must bring a lunch in a non-disposable lunch bag and a bottle of water daily. There will be a morning and afternoon snack provided.
Camper Safety: All Campers must have sunscreen on and bring it daily. Please dress appropriately for all camp activities.
Age Requirements: In accordance with JCPRD children services policy, all age requirements for camps will be enforced with the following exception: a child may be placed in a camp if he/she has a birthday that falls during that week.

Nature & Science: Girl Power Adventure Camp (Ages 12-14) (Summer)
Experience four days of Amazing Adventures with us! Campers will spend time teambuilding on the challenge course, canoeing, flying through the trees on the zip line, hiking a part of the Streamway Trail, and swimming. Participants need to bring a backpack with sack lunch, water bottle, and a swimming suit, as well as comfortable all weather clothing. Participants will meet at Ernie Miller Nature Center. Each participant will need to have a health and liability form signed by a parent or guardian to participate. For more information call (913) 856-8849. Nature & Science: Junior Naturalist Camp (Ages 9-12) (Summer)
Your young naturalist will discover the diversity of life in local prairies, forests, and streams through this hands-on enrichment camp. Ernie Miller Park will be our base camp. Your child will be led by a Naturalist and explore natural areas in our parks. Through observation, investigation, and collection, each student will learn about native animals and plants. We will record our observations and work on a special project. Camp activities will also include hiking, canoeing and stream hiking. Upon successful completion campers will receive a certificate. WEEKLY THEMES

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE! - Let’s go hang out where the wild things are. Travel to TimberRidge Adventure Center and use your imagination to travel around the world. Swing through the jungle like Indiana Jones. Journey across the sea like pirates of long ago and walk across a volcano. Team work, creativity, and the spirit of adventure will kick off the summer days!

PREDATORS ON THE PRAIRIE - Lions, tigers, and bears, oh my! What predators live on the prairie? Learn about the food chains and the web of life.

VISIT THE CRAWDAD HOLE - Crayfish, spiders, and insects!. Study these amazing arthropods their habitats & catch a crawdad!

GEOWHIZ KIDS - Explore the soil and investigate rocks and minerals. Learn about the forces that shape our world. Examine crystals, gems and fossils.

NIGHT CALLS - Whoo calls for you? What animals, big and small, work the night shift? Mysterious… these nocturnal critters are seldom seen and sometimes misunderstood. Let's study coyotes, skunks and owls!

OUR HERITAGE - Our rich heritage weaves a colorful tapestry of stories, myths, and legends. Relive the experiences of long ago. Hear stories from a Pilgrim from Plymouth and learn about how the Native Americans helped them survive.

EXPLORE OUR PARKS - Ever wondered what it is like to work in a park? Learn about different careers in the park world. Taking care of our resources is a big job. Visit with park police officers and park naturalists. Design a park of your own.

CRITTER COMMUNICATION - Use your nose and follow the trail to a hidden den. Animals communicate differently than us. Can you bugle like an elk, sniff out a snack or bluff an enemy? Show your stuff when you pretend to be an animal in a nature skit.

GO GREEN - It’s easy being green! Discover how you can help our earth by more than just recycling. Learn about composting, saving energy and water too! Meet Mother Nature herself and some of her animal friends. (Ernie Miller Park camp only)

WET, WACKY WATER - Have fun with water games and aquatic activities. Build a raft and slide like a beaver. Go on a watery obstacle course. Swamp canoes and launch water balloons.

CAMP MEMORIES - Enjoy songs, surprises, and stories and more! Build a fort and play ambush. Entertain all at the annual talent show.

Science: Mad Science© NASA (Ages 6-12)
From our Earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program for children ages 6-12 sends them on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars and more are all waiting to be discovered. Learn about the four forces of flight, the challenges of space travel and participate in a rocket launch! Topics covered: Earth & Beyond; Astronaut in Training; Solar Launch; and Space Race

Science: Mad Science© Rockin Robots (Ages 6-12)
Build a working robot to take home! Learn the history of robot design and how they sense, decide and carry out tasks. Program a robot to do maneuvers and participate in robot relays.

Science: Mad Science© Secret Agent Lab Camp (Ages 7-13)
Step into the shoes of a detective - uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Become a super sleuth and learn clever ways of performing tasks in this hands-on view of the science that spies use. From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and discover the technological tools of detection! Identify and collect evidence, from fingerprints to tracks to trash! Recreate the scene of a crime using clues and detailed observations. Campers will use science to connect the dots and help sniff out the suspects in this hands-on investigation into the science of sleuthing. Please bring a sack lunch and drink.
